Garrs Lane Church History
The Garrs Lane United Methodist Church has a blended and very rich history of two congregations that united in the fall of 2007 to form a new beginning.
We currently do ministry at the site of the formerly named Parkview Church site on 2020 Garrs Lane Shively, Kentucky, and area now incorporated in the city of Louisville.
The Parkview church founding, dates back to a historical time of 1788 with its first former church building named Millcreek Methodist Church that was used from 1848-1944. This congregation relocated twice, 1944-65 it was known as Parkview Church for the neighborhood it relocated to. The last relocation was due to the construction of the I-264 Watterson expressway that relocated the church to its present site in 1965.
The former Parkwood Church that was located at 6710 Manslick Road, Louisville. It was founded in 1944 from members of the Hazelwood Methodist Church also in south Louisville. Their ministry continued there for 63 years until the remaining membership voted to unite with Parkview in October 2007 to form Garrs Lane UMC.
Our present church motto reflects some of that change: “Repositioning Ourselves to Serve”. We may not have all the pieces in place to list a great variety of ministries to serve your families, but if the Lord directs you to choose us for your faith home church, then You may be one of the missing pieces to help us fulfill God’s purpose and plan for your life and the making of future history in the life of our community.
